Description
In Switzerland, animal experimentation requires an authorisation from the cantonal authorities. Animal experimentation is defined as any measure carried out on living animals for purposes such as verifying scientific hypotheses, obtaining samples for scientific purposes, developing substances, or providing education and training. An authorisation (license) is granted only after review by an independent animal experimentation commission, if the burden on the animals is restricted to the indispensable minimum and a weighing of interests justifies the experiment. Experiments must be conducted under the direction of qualified professionals, documented in writing, and carried out in facilities with appropriate infrastructure.
